Over 100,000 celebrated Canada’s Birthday in Surrey

Darpan News Desk, 04 Jul, 2016 01:23 PM
Returning to Surrey Canada Day after 10 years, Canadian rock legend Tom Cochrane & Red Rider helped a crowd of more than 100,000 celebrate at Surrey’s annual Canada Day Celebration, presented by Coast Capital Savings.  Over 100 exhibitors, midway games and rides, and a fireworks extravaganza rounded out the celebration of what was Canada’s 149th birthday.

“Surrey is proud to host Western Canada’s largest Canada Day celebration,” said Mayor Linda Hepner.  “Year after year attendance grows as the region comes together to celebrate Canada’s birthday in Cloverdale.  I would also like to acknowledge and thank our sponsors, particularly Coast Capital Savings, whose support makes it possible for us to host this wonderful free celebration.”  Opening for Tom Cochrane & Red Rider was, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald; other Main Stage acts included The Dudes, and South Asian favourite, En Karma featuring Vancity Bhangra.  The fireworks musical mash-up was produced by DJ Flipout.

“Surrey’s Canada Celebration always has something for everyone,” said Councillor Bruce Hayne, Chair of the Parks, Recreation & Sport Tourism Committee.  “From the senior’s Strawberry Tea, to world class headline entertainment and the spectacular fireworks finale, the entire event was a tremendous success.”
