Organizer Of Jeep Event Says Stunt That Led To Woman's Death Was Not Planned

The Canadian Press, 01 Sep, 2016 12:20 PM
EDMONTON — The organizer of a Jeep charity event says a stunt that led to the death of a spectator was not planned.

Melinda Green, who was 20, was killed when she was crushed between two Jeeps in May 2013 in downtown Edmonton.

Sarina St. Germain, one of the organizers of the event, says another spectator and a media crew had asked for the stunt, so she cleared the area.

The manoeuvre involved one Jeep climbing up the front tire of another Jeep before the top vehicle turned off the engine.

St. Germain says the driver of the climbing Jeep restarted his engine and lurched forward about three cars lengths, crushing Green.

Green's mother left the courtroom in tears as St. Germain told a fatality inquiry how her daughter died.
