Opinion: 'This Is No Way To Run A Province', Andrew Wilkinson

Andrew Wilkinson, 11 Apr, 2018 12:21 PM
For the past two days, I have stood up in the Legislature along with my fellow BC Liberal MLAs to question this reckless NDP government on its decision to trigger a senseless confrontation with our Albertan neighbours and the federal government.

Because of the actions of John Horgan and his activist Environment Minister, a federally approved multi-billion dollar project under federal jurisdiction is about to grind to a halt. Alberta’s NDP government is even threatening to turn off the taps on BC’s energy supply. The federal government held an emergency Cabinet meeting to deal with this impending crisis. British Columbia is left isolated and embarrassed on the national stage.

When pressed on this fiasco, the Premier has been dismissive as he hides behind litigation and continues to follow a course of action that ignores the rule of law, creates uncertainty, and tears at the fabric of the nation.

But this isn’t just about Kinder Morgan. It’s about everyone who is thinking about investing or expanding a business in BC – and the jobs that depend on those decisions. Horgan’s NDP government is sending a dangerous message to the world: do business in BC at your peril, because the rules are whatever the NDP and their extreme activist allies want them to be.

This is no way to run a province, and definitely not in the interest of British Columbians. I believe that all of us should be able to have confidence that the provincial government will treat everyone fairly and equally.

That’s why I’m calling on John Horgan to travel to Ottawa immediately to undo the damage he is causing to BC’s economy and reputation. British Columbians deserve better than a government determined to pursue its own activist political agenda, at the risk of creating further political and economic uncertainty for the province.

This looming disaster is a reminder that the BC Liberal Party is the only party that can restore stability, confidence, and continued prosperity in British Columbia. Thank you for your support.
