Ontario Spends $20 Million To Build Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 08 Dec, 2015 11:24 AM
PARIS — Ontario's Liberal government will spend $20 million to create more public charging stations for electric vehicles.

The province wants to find public and private sector partners to create a network of fast-charging electric vehicle stations in cities, along highways and at workplaces, apartments and condominiums.

The funding will come from the province's new, $325 million green investment fund, which commits money for projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Premier Kathleen Wynne made the announcement today at the climate change talks in Paris, and said full details of the program will be available later this month.

She says a shift to low and zero-emission vehicles is vital to fight climate change.

Ontario already provides rebates of up to $8,500 for people who purchase electric vehicles.
