Ontario Man Charged In Online Ticket Scam That Duped At Least 75

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 15 Jul, 2016 01:00 PM
  • Ontario Man Charged In Online Ticket Scam That Duped At Least 75
TORONTO — An Ontario man is facing charges after being arrested in an alleged online ticket sale scam that duped at least 75 people in Canada and the U.S.

Toronto police say they worked with their counterparts in Peel Region to conduct an investigation into the scam between last August and this July.

They say a man allegedly placed online ads that appeared to offer tickets for concerts, sports and other events.

Police say customers from across the country and in the U.S. replied to the ads and negotiated a price for the supposed tickets before sending payment to the man through email money transfers and money transfer service businesses.

Police say the customers never received the promised tickets. They say they are aware of at least 75 victims and are concerned there may be more.

Shaun Michael Nixon, 36, is charged with fraud over $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with probation.

A police spokeswoman says Nixon is known to police and has a history of being charged with similar offences.
