TORONTO — Fur farmers in southwestern Ontario are rattled after more than 8,000 mink were released during two recent break-ins.
 
Kirk Rankin with RBR Fur Farms Inc. is still trying to recover the last of about 6,800 mink that were let out of four sheds after a perimeter fence was cut open overnight Tuesday.
 
He says other farmers from seven mink facilities in Perth County are on edge because it is the second break-in since late May.
 
Activists from the Animal Liberation Front have taken responsibility for the first incident at the neighbouring Glenwood Fur Farm that involved the release of about 1,600 mink.
 
Will Hazlitt, a press officer with the organization, says he suspects activists were responsible for this week's release but nothing has been confirmed.
 
Const. Kees Wijnands says investigators don't know who is responsible and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
