Have US$8 million? Ontario Car Seller Has Rare Steve Mcqueen Ferrari On Auction Block In California

The Canadian Press Darpan, 15 Aug, 2014 05:25 PM
MONTEREY, Calif. - An Ontario-based vintage car seller is looking to sell a 1967 Ferrari once owned by Hollywood icon and auto buff Steve McQueen for more than US$8 million at an auction today in California.

RM Auctions says the red Ferrari 275 GTB/4 was delivered to the late actor on the set of his 1968 crime drama "Bullitt" and was later owned by another actor, Guy Williams of "Zorro" fame.

The Blenheim, Ont., headquartered company is hoping to unload the car along with some other classic cars today in Monterey, at the company's auction.

It's also got another ultra-rare ride up for sale — a 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciales that is one of only three made.

On Thursday what is believed to be a record public auction price was set at the Monterey car week, as a rare 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO once owned by racing driver and Olympic gold medal skier Henri Oreiller sold for US$34.65 million.

RM Auctions car specialist Gord Duff said the Ferrari owned by McQueen has become a star in its own right.

"The 275 four cams in general are a pretty special car and a pretty iconic road-going 60s Ferrari. And the fact that this car was sold new to Steve McQueen just adds a lot of provenance to it."
