One Skier In Hospital After Triggering Avalanche Near Golden, B.C.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 09 Feb, 2015 12:36 PM
GOLDEN, B.C. — One skier is in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after an avalanche in southeast British Columbia.

He and another man were allegedly skiing out of bounds near the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort near Golden, B.C., when they apparently triggered the avalanche.

Search and rescue crews were called to rescue the skiers shortly after noon on Sunday.

Golden RCMP are asking skiers to be aware of the avalanche and weather conditions before they head into the backcountry.

Two Saskatchewan men were seriously injured in an avalanche while skiing out of bounds near the same resort last week.

The Canadian Avalanche Association says conditions for the Golden area and much of the rest of the province are currently at "high to considerable risk."
