One Person Arrested In Montreal Student-Organized Anti-Austerity Demonstration

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 21 Mar, 2015 05:25 PM
MONTREAL — Several thousand angry protesters marched in downtown Montreal on Saturday to denounce the provincial government's austerity measures.

Police quickly declared the march illegal because organizers had not informed authorities of their route.

The protest lasted about three hours and spilled onto several Montreal streets and into a subway station.

One person was arrested for assaulting a police officer.

Two tickets were issued for setting off fireworks, and one person was cited for wearing a mask.

The protest was organized by the student organization ASSE, who are planning a series of demonstrations this spring.
