One Man Critically Hurt, Another In Custody When Man Hit By Bus In Burnaby, B.C.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 12 Jun, 2019 07:16 PM

BURNABY, B.C. — RCMP in Burnaby, B.C., are trying to unravel what led to a man being hit and critically injured by a transit bus.

Cpl. Mike Kalanj says officers were responding to reports of an altercation in Burnaby on Tuesday, but before they arrived the 33-year-old victim had been hit by the bus on the busy Hastings Street.

Kalanj says it's still unknown if the man ran into the street or was pushed, but a 62-year-old man has been taken into custody.

Police say the bus driver was not involved in the altercation and a second man arrested has been released after investigators determined he was a witness, not a participant.

Kalanj says the matter is not gang related, but most other details, including any possible relationship between the two men, are still being worked out.

He says he believes the older man is "being co-operative to some degree," but can't say what charges are being contemplated.
