A 66-year-old woman has died in the crash of a small plane at a remote site east of Vancouver.

Mission RCMP says in a statement that the unnamed victim died when a Cessna 170 crashed Monday on an abandoned air strip at the north end of Stave Lake, north of Mission.

A 21-year-old woman has been hurt and police say she is being treated in hospital for undetermined injuries.

The Transportation Safety Board says it is aware of the crash and is gathering information that could help determine a cause.

The BC Coroner's Service is also investigating.

RCMP say further information must be released by the Transportation Safety Board.
