One Arrest, No Injuries After Shots Fired During Standoff On Highway 3A In Southeastern B.C.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 01 Oct, 2015 11:17 AM
WYNNDEL, B.C. — A 52-year-old man from southeastern B.C. is in custody after a roughly 12-hour standoff that shut down a section of Highway 3A.

RCMP Cpl. Dave Tyreman says the standoff began Tuesday afternoon 10 kilometres north of Creston, when members of a utility crew reported someone may have fired shots at them.

Officers confirm no one was hit by any bullets, but a tactical team surrounded the property, locked down the area and brought in a negotiator to try to coax the man out of his home.

Tyreman says the suspect, who has not been named, grew increasingly agitated early Wednesday morning and suddenly rushed out of his residence.

He was arrested after a brief struggle and has been treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Tyreman says a motive for the shooting and standoff are under investigation and no further information will be released.
