Officer-involved Shooting Under Investigation In Surrey, One Man In Hospital With Non-life Threatening Injuries

    On August 14, at approximately 4:17 a.m., the Surrey RCMP received a call that there was a male chasing another male with a machete in an alley in the 10600 block of 135A Street. Police officers responded and located a man they believed matched the suspect description.

     

    During the course of the interaction with the individual, police officers fired their service pistols striking the man. Emergency Health Services attended and the man was transported to hospital with non-life threatening gunshot injuries. No one else was injured during the incident.

     
     

    The scene has been secured, and the Independent Investigation Office of BC (IIO BC) has been notified and have deployed to the scene. IIO BC will assume conduct of the investigation into the police involved shooting.

     

    Surrey RCMP Serious Crime investigators are on scene. Surrey RCMP will continue to investigate the initial complaint and are looking to speak with additional witnesses who have not already spoken to police.
