N.S. Brewery, Islamic Centre Now 'Good Neighbours' After Noise, Trash Complaints

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 27 Oct, 2016 12:33 PM
HALIFAX — A Halifax brewery and neighbouring Islamic centre have issued a joint statement saying they are working out their issues.

The Centre for Islamic Development filed a noise and litter complaint against the Good Robot Brewing Company earlier this month.

In a joint statement Tuesday, the centre and brewery said they met over the weekend for a "lengthy and constructive chat," and were able to reach a number of agreements about how to address the centre's concerns.

"The centre confirmed that its intent is not to shut down Good Robot, but rather to exist harmoniously together, provided reasonable concerns can be addressed with reasonable measures," read the statement.

"Likewise, Good Robot denounces any ill-will that has been directed towards the centre in public forums and welcomes an opportunity to work in a respectful and co-operative manner with the centre and its representatives."

The statement said the two sides were able to develop a list of steps that will be taken to improve the relationship, and plan to meet regularly to ensure their mutual goals are being met.

"We look forward to strengthening our future as good neighbours," it said. "The meeting was also a priceless opportunity to learn about each other's backgrounds and careers, both as representatives of our respective organizations, and as private citizens."

The two sides asked to be allowed to follow the path they've set out in private, without "odious public commentary."
