November declared Sikh Nation Blood Donation Month by Province

Darpan News Desk BC Government News, 03 Nov, 2021 07:38 PM
  • November declared Sikh Nation Blood Donation Month by Province

Ravi Kahlon, MLA for Delta North and Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation, has issued the following statement in honour of the proclamation declaring November as Sikh Nation Blood Donation Month:

“In November 1999, the Sikh Nation organized its first blood donation campaign in Surrey with the belief that all humans should live a safe and happy life. Powered by that belief and the dedication of a few hard-working volunteers, this grassroots campaign became an annual event, growing in size and impact with every year.

“Now in its 22nd year, the campaign has dozens of clinics across Canada, the United States and other locations worldwide. The campaign has become the Canadian Blood Services’ largest contributor to the Partners for Life program, which is dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable people in communities.

“As an opportunity to raise awareness about the horrific acts of violence Sikhs faced in 1984 and the importance of uniting together, the Sikh Nation began the blood donation campaign with the mission to inspire people to give by donating blood, rooted in the Sikh belief in service for all.

“Working closely with Canadian Blood Services, the Sikh Nation Blood Donation Campaign has helped save nearly 160,000 lives.

“For 22 years, the Sikh Nation has brought people together to save lives and create unity, so I call on everyone to do their part this November. Register today to become a partner and book your appointment to donate blood so you can help save a life."
