Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island Digging Out After Intense Winter Blast

The Canadian Press, 17 Jan, 2016 01:08 PM
HALIFAX — Crews are cleaning up Sunday after an intense winter storm dumped more than 40 centimetres of snow and ice pellets on parts of Nova Scotia.

Environment Canada says Antigonish Harbour was one of the hardest hit areas of the province, with 43 centimetres recorded in the northeastern community.

The national weather forecaster says other parts of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island received between 15 and 30 centimetres.

The storm caused a slew of delays and cancellations at Halifax Stanfield International Airport over the weekend.

Nova Scotia's Transportation Department says many rural roads are still snow-covered but passable.

Police reported a number of accidents on Saturday evening as people grappled with white-out driving conditions.
