Nova Scotia Medical Residents Ratify Contract Agreement

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 04 Dec, 2015 12:54 PM
HALIFAX — The Nova Scotia government says the province's 385 medical residents have ratified a contract agreement with the province.

Deputy premier Diana Whalen has issued a statement saying the deal stays within the government's fiscal plan.

The contract includes a wage increase of three per cent over four years, but it starts with a wage freeze in the first two years.

The deal, reached after four days of talks in May, also covers 540 medical residents in other parts of the Maritime provinces.

Meanwhile, the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union says it has put a contract ratification vote on hold until mid-January for 7,600 civil servants.

The union delayed the vote after the province's 9,000 teachers rejected a similar tentative deal on Tuesday.
