Nova Scotia Girl, 15, Arrested After Child Porn Shared On Social Media: RCMP

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 25 Mar, 2016 12:40 PM
WINDSOR, N.S. — A 15-year-old Nova Scotia girl has been arrested for allegedly sharing child pornography on social media, and police say more arrests are possible.

The girl is facing charges of producing, possessing and distributing child pornography after an adult came forward to police in the Windsor area Wednesday, said RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Clarke.

There is more than one alleged victim, and all are believed to be Nova Scotians.

"The images were being shared for more than a month before we became aware of it," said Clarke. "We don't feel that this is motivated in a malicious sort of way."

Clarke said the teenager has been arrested but not yet charged. She was released and is scheduled to appear in court April 1.

Clarke said the incident is a reminder to parents to talk to their children and monitor their online activities.

"Once it goes online, it won't come down. No matter how hard you try, you will never be sure."

The investigation is ongoing, and Clarke said "we may have to make other arrests."
