North Vancouver Youngster Dies In Boating Accident Near Vernon, B.C.

The Canadian Press, 14 Aug, 2018 11:23 AM
VERNON, B.C. — A six-year-old has died in a boating accident near Vernon, in British Columbia's north Okanagan region.

RCMP say it happened at about 6 p.m. Monday as a family from North Vancouver was returning from a day of boating on Kalamalka Lake.

An adult driver was turning the boat when the youngster fell overboard and was hit by part of the vessel.

Those aboard rescued the young victim and rushed to a nearby pier where emergency crews were waiting but the child could not be saved.

Cpl. Tania Finn says police are assisting the BC Coroners Service in the investigation.

The family is also receiving support from a victim services organization.
