Gas prices have hit two-dollars a litre in Vancouver but analysts warn they could go even higher following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
A petroleum analyst at gas price information website Gasbuddy.com predicts much of Canada will see prices rise by another five to 15 cents a litre over the next one to two weeks.
Patrick de Haan says that's because sanctions imposed over the invasion of Ukraine are putting a chokehold on oil exports from Russia, which churns out about 10 per cent of global supply.
U-B-C business professor Werner Antweiler says surging transportation costs for imported foods and goods are also being passed on to consumers — a double-whammy on top of already surging inflation.
