No One Hurt, But One Home Damaged In Early Morning Mudslide Near Vernon, B.C.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 10 Apr, 2018 12:07 PM
VERNON, B.C. — A mudslide near Vernon, B.C., has damaged one home.

The slide occurred just after 1 a.m., in the Okanagan Landing area, along the northeastern edge of Okanagan Lake.

No injuries are reported, but Vernon RCMP say a nine metre-wide stretch of mud covers a road south of the city.

They estimate it could be hours before the route is cleared.

Residents stuck behind the slide can get out but police say a four-wheel drive vehicle is required and no one will be allowed to return until the road reopens.

Electricity to more than 300 nearby homes has been cut and BC Hydro crews were dispatched but there is no estimate on the utility's website about when power might be restored.
