No One Hurt After Hot Air Balloon In Vernon, B.C., Winter Carnival Crashes

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 02 Feb, 2019 12:51 AM

VERNON, B.C. — A hot air balloon taking part in the winter carnival in Vernon, B.C., hit a power pole and crashed on Friday.

Capt. Chris Bridgeman, with the fire department in Armstrong, B.C., says the balloon wasn't moving quickly and the balloon briefly hit the power lines and then coasted to the ground as it deflated.

He says there were four or five people in the basket and no one was hurt.

Bridgeman said there was no risk of fire.

Vernon Winter Carnival chairperson Deb White says the balloon was ruined.

It was one of several that took off in Vernon and floated towards Armstrong for the first day of the 10-day winter carnival.
