A former security guard at a university in Langley, B-C, who was convicted of manslaughter will not be going to prison.
The B-C Supreme Court found the 55-year-old man guilty in the 2020 incident at Trinity Western University that resulted in the death of a 30-year-old.
The man got an 18-month conditional sentence to be served in the community.
The Crown had wanted the judge to hand him a five-year prison sentence.
A 54-year-old man is dead after a building fire in Surrey that also killed two pets. Surrey R-C-M-P say they got a report of a fire in the upper residential suites of a commercial building a little before 3:30 this morning.

It said an incident at Burnaby's Parkland fuel refinery caused the "strong chemical odour" around the region and enforcement officers were sent to the site to make sure Parkland was complying with it's emissions permit.
