No Injuries But Fog Traps Smoke From Stinky Blaze Over Northeast Vancouver

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 16 Jan, 2019 12:23 AM

Vancouver firefighters expect to begin scouring the charred remains of a Vancouver scrapyard, searching for the cause of a Monday night blaze that rattled the area with the sound of exploding fuel tanks.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue assistant chief Kevin Wilson says flames broke out just before 9 p.m. at the business in northeast Vancouver, not far from Burrard Inlet.

He says the small explosions came from a motorcycle repair business at the site.

Several motorcycles burned, along with propane and acetylene tanks.

Wilson says heavy fog trapped the thick smoke over the neighbourhood, making the situation even more unpleasant for nearby residents.

He says "considerable gases and flames" were generated by the fire and the foggy, windless weather kept the smelly blanket from dissipating quickly, but no one was hurt and the fire was brought under control within hours. (News1130)
