No Injuries As Blaze Levels Parkcrest Elementary In Kamloops, B.C.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 06 Sep, 2019 08:55 PM

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Flames have left much of an elementary school in Kamloops, B.C., a smoky ruin.

Kamloops Fire Rescue Capt. Darryl Cooper says, with the exception of the gymnasium area, most of the Parkcrest Elementary building has collapsed.

He says investigators have not determined what caused the fire.

Flames were spotted at around 5 p.m. Thursday when the building was mostly empty.

Kamloops-Thompson School District assistant Supt. Rob Schoen says custodial staff were able to escape without injury.

He says the school district is now working on a plan to get the 360 students back to class.

In the meantime, a notice from the school district advises parents to make arrangements for their children until at least the end of next week. (CFJC, Global)
