No Injuries After Squall On Kamloops Lake Swamps Small Boat With 13 Aboard

The Canadian Press, 15 Jul, 2016 12:39 PM
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Thirteen out-of-province vacationers had to be rescued in B.C.'s southern Interior Thursday evening when their pleasure boat was swamped during a thunder storm.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Michel Grondin says the five adults and eight youths, aged 12 to 15, were in a six-metre boat on Kamloops Lake, west of Kamloops, when the sudden storm kicked up strong winds and high waves.

Grondin says several RCMP units, the fire department and the RCMP helicopter rushed to the lake.

He says by the time crews arrived, nine of the 13 had already made it to shore.

Rescuers were able to quickly pluck the remaining two adults and two children from the water and reunite the group.

Police could not provide the home towns of the vacationers, but say all 13 are unhurt.
