Newfoundland Charity Volunteer Ousted For Pro-Gay, Pro-Choice Views

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 12 May, 2016 11:36 AM
BURGEO, N.L. — A Newfoundland woman ousted as a volunteer leader for a children's charity because she supports gay marriage and abortion says support for her stance is overwhelming.

A Facebook post by Kay Cossar of Burgeo has been shared hundreds of times since she was sent packing as regional co-ordinator of Operation Christmas Child.

Canadians sent more than 730,000 shoebox gifts to the developing world last year through the program run by Samaritan's Purse.

The evangelical Christian charity says it delivers help to people in need around the world regardless of religious beliefs.

Spokesman Jeff Adams confirms, however, that leaders who represent the group must sign a statement of faith recently changed to specifically reject gay marriage and abortion.

He says world views may be changing, but the statement is to remind volunteers the group believes the Bible rejects abortion and sex outside of heterosexual marriage.
