Newfoundland boy stabbed on field is at home and talking of playing soccer again

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 09 Oct, 2014 11:54 AM

CONCEPTION BAY SOUTH, N.L. - An 11-year-old boy who was stabbed on an athletic field in Newfoundland is recovering at home and talking to his mother about playing soccer again.

The president of the Conception Bay South Soccer Association says he spoke to the boy's mother on Thursday about her son's progress since he was stabbed on Sept. 25.

Calvin Randell says the boy's mother calls him "her miracle" because of the physical and emotional recovery he has shown since he was stabbed on the field in Topsail, N.L.

He says at one point during his treatment, the boy was in an induced coma.

The boy cannot be identified because of a court-ordered publication ban.

Nineteen-year-old Nicholas Layman has been charged with attempted murder in the case and is undergoing a month-long psychiatric assessment before returning to provincial court.
