Police in New Westminster are looking for witnesses of an assault they believe may have been a targeted attack.
They say it happened near the intersection of Carnarvon Street and Alexander Street early yesterday.
The victim was taken to hospital with significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say they believe two people armed with weapons are responsible for the assault and are canvassing the area for C-C-T-V footage of the suspects.
The meeting at the office of the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (VANDU) on the first day of the new policy began with a man handing out "know your rights" cards. They say people aged 18 and over carrying up to 2.5 grams of opioids, cocaine, methamphetamine and MDMA, or ecstasy, for their own use will not have those drugs confiscated.
