New West Police Arrest Man After Seven-Hour Standoff

    On September 18, 2017 at approximately 5:00am, New Westminster Police Department were called to a residence in Queensborough for a male uttering threats. 
     
    Upon arrival the suspect barricaded himself in the home and refused to come out. It was believed the male was armed with a weapon, what ensued was a lengthy standoff with police.
     
    “Patrol officers at the initial stage made numerous attempts to communicate with this individual,” stated Media Relations Officer Sergeant Jeff Scott, “From phone calls to loud speakers, we tried different ways to reach out to ensure his safety.”
     
    Approximately seven hours later, the suspect exited the residence was arrested without incident. Charges are pending and the male is due to appear in court tomorrow. 
     
     
    The New Westminster Police Department would like to thank The Lower mainland Emergency Response Team for their assistance. This investigation is ongoing.
