Vancouver city council has approved a new flat rate of two dollars per hour for parking meters throughout the Chinatown neighbourhood.
Mayor Ken Sim says the community has called the cost of parking a barrier to visiting and doing business in Chinatown.
The new flat rate will take effect June 1st and run from 9 a-m to 10 p-m, seven days a week.
The pilot program will be in place until the end of 2024.
A letter from Surrey, B.C., MP Randeep Sarai says he has met with truckers who have complied with the new measures but still find it unreasonable and worry about the requirement to replace more vehicles from their fleets down the road.

The victim, a 15-year-old male youth, ran into a business in the 4500-block of Central Boulevard and told staff that he had been stabbed by an unknown male. Attending officers secured the scene and conducted patrols for the suspect.
Police found the bodies of a 43-year old woman and a 14-year old girl, inside the residence. The two victims were related.
Patrol officers and the Youth Support Team worked diligently to identify the suspects, all three of whom are youths. The youths have cooperated with the investigation and have taken responsibility for their actions.
