TransLink says a new SkyTrain station in Richmond is open to the public today for regular service.

The Capstan station, which will link the existing Bridgeport and Aberdeen stations, will be a new Canada Line stop.

TransLink says on a regular weekday in 2019, more than 37-thousand customers were riding the Canada Line between those two stations.

The construction of Capstan station first started in 2021 after TransLink and the city reached an agreement on the design concept in 2020.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last week said the government was responding to concerns about the cost of living by temporarily taking the federal sales tax off certain goods and sending $250 cheques to working Canadians in the spring.
