New Brunswick Recounts confirming election night results

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 04 Oct, 2014 01:40 PM
Three recounts have confirmed the voting results on election night in New Brunswick, nearly two weeks after the polls closed.

Elections New Brunswick says judges from the Court of Queen's Bench have confirmed the wins by Liberal Andrew Harvey in Carleton-Victoria, Liberal Wilfred Roussel in Shippagan-Lamèque-Miscou and Progressive Conservative Pam Lynch in Fredericton-Grand Lake.

The court confirmed the victories of two other Liberal candidates on Friday: Ed Doherty in Saint John Harbour and Gary Keating in Saint John East.

Elections New Brunswick spokesman Paul Harpelle says the hope is that the remaining two recounts will be completed this weekend.

Questions were raised about the accuracy of the electronic tabulation system after a software glitch delayed the posting of election results by about two hours on election night on Sept. 22.

The Progressive Conservatives sought six of the recounts while the People's Alliance of New Brunswick asked for one.
