New Brunswick Liberals to take over government in 10 to 14 days: Gallant

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 24 Sep, 2014 11:14 AM

FREDERICTON - The premier designate of New Brunswick says the Liberals will take over government in the next 10 to 14 days.

Brian Gallant met with defeated premier David Alward today to discuss the transition process after leading his party to a majority government on Monday.

Gallant also says he will place a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing as soon as possible, but he hasn't set a date yet.

The Progressive Conservatives ran on a campaign promoting shale gas exploration, while Gallant promised a moratorium until more studies are done on any environmental and health impacts of the process.

Alward is resigning from the leadership of his party, but has said he'll continue to represent the riding of Carleton in the legislature.

The Liberals won 27 seats in the election, leaving the Tories with 21, while the Greens took one riding.
