NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh Names Montreal MP Boulerice As Deputy Leader

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 11 Mar, 2019 08:54 PM

MONTREAL — NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is naming Montreal MP Alexandre Boulerice deputy leader in hopes of boosting the party's fortunes in Quebec.

Singh made the announcement today at a community centre in east-end Montreal.

Boulerice, a former union adviser, was first elected to Parliament in 2011 and represents the riding of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie.

The Montreal MP is known for his confrontational political style and strong oratory skills in the House of Commons.

The NDP is currently polling fourth in Quebec, down from its highs in the 2011 election, when the party won the majority of seats in the province and became the Official Opposition.

Singh will rely on Boulerice's name recognition and ease in the French language to make the case for the party in Quebec.
