Murder Accused Escapes From Delhi Police Custody

Darpan News Desk, 11 Apr, 2016 12:26 PM
An undertrial in a murder case escaped from Delhi Police custody here on Monday while being taken to Haryana for court appearance, an officer said.

Deepak Dabas, in his late 30s, was lodged in the Tihar Central Jail in Delhi.

"He was to be presented before a court in Sonepat and was being taken there on a production warrant. He managed to give a slip to the Delhi Police team in west Delhi's Bawana market," said the officer.

He said Dabas jumped out of a vehicle in which he was being taken to Sonepat in Haryana when it got stuck in a traffic jam.

The officer said a case was registered at Bawana police station, while efforts are on to nab Dabas, a resident of Majra Dabas village in west Delhi.

"It is a matter of investigation as to how Dabas managed to unlock his handcuffs before fleeing and why was he being taken in a tempo (a cargo vehicle with open rear space) instead of a proper jail van," the officer added.
