Mounties crack down on auto crime in Surrey, B.C., arrest 13 prolific offenders

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 23 Dec, 2014 05:51 PM

SURREY, B.C. — An auto-crime crackdown by Mounties in Surrey, B.C., has led to the arrest of 13 offenders.

In one of the cases, police say they have recommended 25 charges against one person.

The RCMP's specialized auto-crime team went to work across the province's second-largest city between Dec. 4 and Dec. 17.

The arrests come at a time when police say property crime accounts for 40 per cent of crime in Surrey and is on the rise in other areas of Metro Vancouver.

RCMP Sgt. Gary Rodricks says several prolific property-crime offenders will be spending the holiday season behind bars because of police efforts.

Police says they will be checking areas with high concentrations of vehicles, like shopping centres and park-and-ride areas, as they monitor prolific offenders.
