Mountie Charged With Assault In Stabbing At Drive-Thru In Edmonton In 2013

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 15 Mar, 2019 09:03 PM

EDMONTON, B.C. — A Mountie has been charged with assault in relation to a stabbing at a fast food drive-thru in Edmonton six years ago.

The RCMP says in a statement that the junior constable is currently posted to the detachment in Langley, B.C., and the incident dates back to before he joined the RCMP.

The Edmonton Police Service says two victims sustained serious injuries, one of them "life-altering," in a fight that broke out after a man allegedly approached a car waiting at a McDonald's drive-thru, then fled the scene after witnesses intervened.

It says 31-year-old Benjamen Kozlovich was arrested in Chilliwack, B.C., and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The RCMP says it has launched an internal investigation to review Kozlovich's employment status, adding he completed training in January 2018 and is a probationary member.

It says he has been released on bail following his first court appearance.

The alleged incident occurred in the early hours of New Year's Day in 2013.
