Morgan, Great Dane who held record as tallest female dog, dies in Ontario

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 02 Oct, 2014 10:44 AM

STRATHROY, Ont. - A four-legged celebrity from southwestern Ontario has died.

Morgan the Great Dane — also known as the world’s tallest female dog — died on Wednesday, according to her owner Cathy Payne.

Payne, who lives in the Strathroy area west of London, Ont., confirmed the sad news in a Facebook post, saying the dog was playing and "having fun" when she suddenly collapsed and died in her arms.

Condolences and messages of support have flooded the Facebook page dedicated to Morgan.

The six-year-old dog made the 2014 edition of Guinness World Records, with a height of 98 centimetres tall at the shoulder.

Morgan weighed in at about 90 kilograms.

“Morgan was playing and having fun when she collapsed and passed away in seconds in my arms," Payne's Facebook post reads.

"I believe she had a heart attack and I have some peace knowing she did not suffer at all."
