VANCOUVER — Residents in parts of southern British Columbia woke up to fresh snow this morning as a winter storm continues to sweep the region.

Snowfall warnings are in effect for the Fraser Valley , where up to 10 centimetres is expected.

The snow dump prompted multiple school closures in Langley, Surrey, Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Tsawwassen.

Ten hours after it was issued, Environment Canada ended the Snowfall Warning for Metro Vancouver .

BC Hydro says it's working to restore power to nearly 3,000 customers in Surrey and White Rock after a tree fell on the wires.

But university students are still going to have to write their final exams — Simon Fraser University says all its campuses are open.

Drivers are being urged to brace for a messy commute before the snow tapers off later this morning.
