More Oversight Urged After 3 Cats Left For 22 Days In Humane Society Vehicle

The Canadian Press, 05 Jun, 2018 11:42 AM
  • More Oversight Urged After 3 Cats Left For 22 Days In Humane Society Vehicle

EDMONTON — An animal rights group is calling for an independent investigation into how three cats were left in an Edmonton Humane Society vehicle for 22 days.

The humane society says it did a full internal review to ensure something similar never happens again.

But Camille Labchuk with Animal Justice says it's a conflict of interest for the society to investigate itself and an outside agency should be brought in.

The society says the cats were dehydrated, hungry and had minor urine burns on their paws when they were discovered April 18.

It says in a statement the team brought the animals to the Edmonton shelter from another agency on March 27, but the three cats were overlooked when the vehicle was unloaded.

The society says the cats have been medically cleared and adopted into new homes.
