Darpan News Desk Canadian Press, 12 Aug, 2014 11:29 AM
  • Monument to missing, murdered aboriginal woman unveiled in Winnipeg
A small monument to missing and murdered aboriginal women has been unveiled in Winnipeg.

The two-metre-high granite statue is shaped in the form of a woman.

There's an opening in the middle designed to let sunlight through.

Families of some missing and murdered women in Manitoba were at the unveiling and laid tobacco at the monument's base.

Aboriginal and Northern Affairs Minister Eric Robinson says the monument provides a place for families to grieve, honour or celebrate their loved ones.

Robinson also renewed his call for a national inquiry into missing and murdered aboriginal women.
