Moncton RCMP Search For Suspicious Man Reportedly Carrying Firearm

The Canadian Press, 25 Jan, 2015 01:50 PM
MONCTON, N.B. — RCMP officers are searching a neighbourhood in Moncton, N.B., after receiving a report today of a suspicious male walking down a street with what appeared to be a firearm.

Police searched a large area of northwest Moncton after receiving the complaint at about 11:15 a.m.

A news release issued about four hours later asked for the public's help in identifying a male, possibly in his late teens, with dark hair of average height wearing dark-coloured pants and a grey jacket with red stripes on the sleeves.

The Mounties say the initial complaint they received said he was seen walking down Katherine Avenue.

They have blocked of a number of streets in the surrounding area as they go door-to-door.

Three RCMP officers were killed and two others were wounded by a gunman last June in the city.

Police are asking people in the area to remain in their homes as they continue their search, which includes a police dog and emergency response personnel.

Some of the officers seen patrolling the area are wearing camouflage clothing and are armed with rifles.
