MLA Harry Bains Gets Nod To Seek 4th Term For NDP in Surrey-Newton

Darpan News Desk, 27 Sep, 2016 12:09 PM
MLA Harry Bains was acclaimed as the BC NDP candidate for Surrey-Newton at a nomination meeting today, clearing the way for his fourth successful run for office. Bains was elected to represent the constituency in 2005, 2009 and 2013.

A former elected member of the Steelworkers Union and former vice-chair of the Kwantlen University College Board of Governors, Bain is well-aware of the serious issues facing his community.

“The Christy Clark BC Liberals have failed Surrey-Newton.  The level of violence, and threats of violence, are frightening people,” Bains said. “Our schools are filled to bursting, with more than 7,000 children in portables, and we are far, far behind where we need to be on transit.”

“The people of Surrey-Newton could not ask for a more dedicated MLA than Harry Bains,” said BC NDP Leader John Horgan. “He knows the community, he has a track record of standing up for people who need help, and he works tirelessly to make a difference.”

Bains and his wife Rajvinder are long-time Surrey residents. They have two children, Kulpreet and Jasmeen.

An election is expected next May.
