Military Says Canadian Reservist Died While Training At Base In Manitoba

IANS, 27 Jul, 2015 11:14 AM
SHILO, Man. — A Canadian soldier in the reserves has died while training at a military base in Manitoba.

The military issued a news release saying that Pte. Kirby Tott died suddenly Saturday afternoon at Canadian Forces Base Shilo.

The release provides no details on the circumstances, but notes Tott was a member of the Rocky Mountain Rangers, a Reserve Regiment of 39 Canadian Brigade Group, and was carrying out specialty training required to become an Infantry soldier.

It says the death is under investigation and that an autopsy will be conducted.

The release says Tott joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a reservist with the Rocky Mountain Rangers in Prince George, B.C., in 2012.

Lieutenant-General Marquis Hainse, Commander of the Canadian Army, and Prime Minister Stephen Harper both issued statements offering condolences to Tott's family.

"This tragic news reminds us of the dangers that the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces must face, whether Reservists, Regular Force, participating in training or deployed on operations abroad," Hainse said in his statement.
