Microsoft has announced plans to open a new training and development centre in Vancouver that will more than double its workforce thus creating 400 new jobs. The announcement that came in Thursday translates into posing Vancouver home to Microsoft's largest centre in Canada.

Set to open in late 2015 in Vancouver's Pacific Centre, the new Microsoft Canada Excellence Centre is projected to deliver a $90 million annual boost to BC's economy, states The Vancouver Sun.

"Vancouver is a vibrant international hub for technology development with growth potential given its attractive location, amenities, reputation and proximity to top universities and a highly-educated and diverse workforce and population," said Janet Kennedy, president of Microsoft Canada in a news release.

"This investment will enable us to create a world-class centre of training and innovation that will have a positive ripple effect across the local, provincial and national economy.

The new set of jobs will reportedly focus on Microsoft's Applications and Services Group.
