Michael Ferguson Says Some Senators Failed To Give Evidence To Support Claims

The Canadian Press, 10 Jun, 2015 10:18 AM
OTTAWA — The auditor general says the findings of wrongful spending in the Senate are justified despite accusations from some senators that his review was incomplete or flawed.

Michael Ferguson stood behind the findings of his report a day after its release.

In an interview with The Canadian Press, Ferguson says auditors carefully handled each individual audit knowing that their findings would affect the careers and reputations of the senators involved.

He says some senators could have found extra evidence to support a claim auditors questioned, but didn't do so before the audit's release on Tuesday.

Ferguson says his team did a test on each case to determine if a senator would be named in the audit.

The report found a culture of entitlement amongst some senators who often chose to spend public money without thinking about the cost to taxpayers.
