Mayors Say Victoria Police Chief Frank Elsner's Future Part Of Ongoing Talks

The Canadian Press, 11 Dec, 2015 01:56 PM
Victoria's police board says it is preparing to consider a range of employment options for Chief Frank Elsner, including being removed from his post.

Elsner has apologized and said he was humiliated for exchanging messages on social media with the wife of one of his police officers.

The mayors of Victoria and Esquimalt, co-chairwomen on the board, say issues regarding the chief's future are unfolding rapidly and they advised the public to stay tuned.

Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps and Esquimalt Mayor Barb Desjardins say they are awaiting direction from the Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner, and say the chief's future could be part of their discussions.

Elsner, who is currently on vacation, was given the board's full support last week after it reviewed a report on the issue conducted by an independent investigator.

Earlier this week, the union representing police officers in Victoria and Esquimalt said the chief needs to be removed over a breach of trust that affects all members.
