Maryam Rashidi's Accused Killer, Joshua Cody Mitchell, Appears In Calgary Court

The Canadian Press, 15 Jun, 2015 11:12 AM
CALGARY — A man charged in the hit-and-run death of a Calgary gas station worker has made a brief court appearance.

Joshua Cody Mitchell appeared on closed-circuit television and the matter was put over until June 30.

Mitchell faces several charges that include criminal negligence causing death and theft — for $113 in stolen gas.

Maryam Rashidi, who was 35, was run over by a truck June 7 while trying to stop the driver from leaving a gas station without paying.

Mitchell was out on bail after being charged in January with dangerous driving, possession of stolen property and driving without a valid licence.

Crown prosecutor Lloyd Robertson said he will oppose any attempt to release Mitchell on bail and called it a serious matter "that shocked our city."
