19-year-old SFU student Maple Batalia’s ex-boyfriend Gurjinder "Gary" Dhaliwal has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in her 2011 shooting death
Dhaliwal admits to firing five shots at Batalia, hitting her three times the night of Sept. 28, 2011 in the SFU Surrey parkade.
He then slashed her 11 times with knife and left.

He is to be sentenced Monday.
Twenty-four-year-old Gurjinder Dhaliwal was originally charged with first-degree murder.
When those details came out in court, Batalia’s mother burst into tears.
Sentencing for Dhaliwal in #MapleBatalia case will happen on Monday. Crown asking for life with no parole for 21 years.

His co-accused Gursimar Bedi is charged with manslaughter and being an accessory after the fact.
Bedi's trial is expected to start next week.
